Adult and Family Sailing

SEA is a great place for beginning sailors of all ages. We have a number of ways for adults and families to get involved in sailing.

Discovery, Beginning, and Intermediate Adult Sailing Classes

  • We offer an easy to try discover sailing, and more extended beginning and intermediate sailing classes

    Note: If we don’t have a class currently, or none of our scheduled class dates work for you, sign up on our waitlist below. We will notify you when other classes open up.

On-demand lessons and classes

  • We can create a custom class for a family group that brings together adult sailing and youth sailing principles and learning.

  • We can also work with our youth counselors to create private sailing lessons (mutual schedule depending)

Discover Sailing

For people who have never sailed or have not sailed in a long time signing up for a full class feel like a big step. To help people discover sailing in a low-cost, low threshold way, we are now offering a half-day "discover sailing” class.

Under guidance of an SEA instructors, students will learn basic sailing concepts, help rig a sailboat, and have time out on the water with an instructor onboard steering, handling lines, and managing sails.

Classes are capped at a maximum of 6 students supported by an instructor and up to two assistants.

  • Discover 1: Sunday April 19, 10am-2pm

  • Discover 2: Saturday May 16, 10am-2pm

    • Location:110 Loch Lomond Dr. (Dock A behind  Andy's grocery store next to Loch Lomond Yacht Club)

    • Days, time, duration: Classes consiste of 1 half day which include a mix of “dockside” content and on the water hands-on learning. The class run from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.

    • Ages: >16

    • Prerequisites: If over 18 none, if 16-18, permission of a parent.

Beginning Small Boat Sailing

An introduction to sailing small boats (the BEST way to learn to sail!) Students will learn to tack, jibe, sail on all points of sail, dock the boat, and learn how to get into and out of the "safety position" and into and out of "irons". Safety and self-confidence are emphasized.

Class will cover basic knots, and rigging a simple small sailboat. Adult Beginning Sailing will be taught on the water using SEA’s 16.5’ Catalina keelboats. Classes are capped at a maximum of 6 students supported by an instructor and up to two assistants.

  • Beginning 1: Sat 5/9, Sun 5/10, Sun 5/17 & Sun 5/24

  • Beginning 2: Sat 5/30, Sun 5/31, Sun 6/7 & Sun 6/13

    • Days, time, duration: Classes are offered on weekends and consist of 4 days all of which include a mix of “dockside” content and on the water hands-on learning. All classes run from approximately 9:00 am - 2:00 pm.

    • Ages: >16

    • Prerequisites: If over 18 none, if 16-18, permission of a parent.

    • Boats:Catalina 16.5 Keel model

Intermediate Keel Boat Sailing

SEA’s intermediate-level course is designed for sailors who are ready to gain greater independence and confidence on the water while refining essential sailing techniques. Students will sail Quests and focus on advanced sail trim and boat control, learning how subtle adjustments impact speed and performance across different points of sail. Additional skills include reefing while underway, anchoring procedures, capsize recovery, and crew-overboard response and safety protocols, and more! Students must complete Beginner Sailing as a prerequisite.

    • Days, time, duration: Classes are offered on weekends and consist of 2 days which will focus on on-the-water hands-on learning. All classes run from approximately 9:00 am - 2:00 pm.

    • Ages: >16

    • Prerequisites: If over 18 none, if 16-18, permission of a parent.

    • Boats: RS Quests

  • If no classes or sessions are currently available that work for you, you can still sign up for our waitlist above.

  • PLEASE NOTE THE CLASS DATES WHEN YOU REGISTER. The receipt that is sent to your email is your confirmation that the enrollment has been fully completed. Info on the confirmed class dates are listed on the receipt. Please check the receipt to be sure everything is correct.

Refund Policy

Cancelation

You may cancel your class registration up to 14 days before the start of the class for a full refund less a $25 processing fee.

Please contact us if you need to cancel.

Weather

We can’t control the weather, somedays there’s very little wind and some days there’s too much. We do not provide refunds based on weather.

Missed Days

You are responsible for ensuring that you can participate in all the class days. If for some reason you have to miss a class, we do offer occasonal makeup days, but they are general in nature and may involve students from different sessions.
