We are proud that for over 40 years our collective commitment to sailing and education has inspired a new generations of sailors and lifelong stewards of the ocean. SEA has always been committed to making sailing affordable and accessible. Our programs are supported through grants, class fees, memberships, and generous donors.

$75 - $149 will receive an SEA travel mug;

Creating Opportunities for our Community

Fostering Youth Sailing: Three cheers for SEA’s award-winning Sail Camps!!! SEA was awarded the Garret Horder Memorial Trophy for excellence. Taught by our SEA-raised counselors, over 140 campers learned to sail! Through scholarship support, SEA provided 22 youth access to our transformative sailing experiences. For the coming year we are aiming to expand youth program options and significantly increase our scholarship support.

Building SEA Membership Opportunities: In the last 12 months, we’ve offered more than 26 sailings opportunities for our members. From twice monthly open sails to our annual Angel Island potluck trip to new racing opportunities, our member events are low-cost and high-fun ways to get on the water. Next year, our membership model is changing to make it even easier to participate.

Building a strong Foundation for Success

Upgrading our Fleet: We do a pretty amazing job fixing the equipment we have, but maintaining what we have and upgrading to new, safe equipment is critical for our future success! Among other upgrades in 2025, we plan to replace aging keelboats with Harbor 20s which will offer a great platform for beginning sailing lessons, while also offering members a great day sailing experience.

Investing in our Team: SEA has always been a scrappy volunteer driven community organization, but we do rely on a base of paid staff. From our part-time Program Director to our youth instructors, our team makes it all work. For 2025, we are looking at more creative ways to enhance our youth instructor and Program Director support so they do even more to help grow this community.

Dominican Students Gather SEA Impact Stories

Over the last several Months, SEA has had the pleasure of working with a team of four students from a Dominican University class “Leadership and Teams in Organizations: Theory and Practice.”

Miekayla, Elle, Ana, and Wendy have been gathering information for potential sponsor outreach and conducting interviews with SEA participants and partners to help build a series of impact stories. We are also so grateful for everyone who participated in this project. In coming months we’ll share these stories.

In the meantime, we want to recognize their contributions and let them tell you a bit about their experience working with SEA.

Recent Member Events

Member Meeting

SEA held our annual Member Meeting on October 27th in connection with a special open-sail. Lots of members came out to sail, and many stayed for the member meeting .

SEA’s board was approved for the year including welcoming in Gary Harbison and Jenny Lyon, and saying thank you to David Hirzel.

Several awards and recognitions were presented at the meeting.

The 2024 Lawler Cup went to Kati Murray who had the most cumulative points in the fun race series held this fall.

A special lifetime service award went out to our recently retired Director - Jane Piereth.

We recognized our Volunteer(s) of the year - Michael Szymanski, and Kati Murray - both of whom have put in a lot of hard work on behalf of SEA.

We also recognized our Skipper of the Year - David Hirzel for his ongoing dedication to SEA’s mission over the years.

Finally, we presented certificates of appreciation to the many, many volunteers who have contributed to SEA over the last year.

It was a great event and we’re excited to see what we have to celebrate next year.
